***************************

The tawny owl came home today. We picked it up from Korkeasaari Zoo this evening. They had put one mouse into the carton but thought that it might not eat it in the box. When we came home DH took leather gloves and we went to the little wood behind our house where there was a suitable stone with soft moss, while I and Lastborn took our places a little farther away on the upstairs staircase. They had warned us in the zoo that in case the owl should feel itself threatened in anyway, it might try to attack us..

Luckily I had my camera ready and zoomed to the stone. DH shook the box carefully to get the owl out and at first it seemed that it didn't want to come. But then suddenly it was on it's feet on the stone staring at DH with large, dark and clear eyes. I think it got scared as DH tried to shake the mouse out as well, because it took right away to it's wings and flew away. So it's supper was left lying on the stone. And the picture is the only one I got.

Funny enough,  I somehow hoped that it would have stayed in our backyard as our "home owl". But who knows: it might do that anyhow, since there's no way we'll know for sure because when it is on the move, we are sound asleep in our beds... Or it might reward us by keeping our lot freem from moles and mice...

Anyhow: most important is that it recovered from it's ordeal and was capable of returning back to nature.

I don't know if you can say that an owl is cute, but that's how I and Lastborn thought of it. Hymy
