Hymy

Last year I wasn't able to participate the cyanotype workshop because I had double-booked my weekend. In the fall there was no workshop since there weren't enough participants, so now I was anxiously waiting to hear what would come of it - luckily there were enough enthusiasts this time  and the workshop was held this weekend.Hymy

Cyanotype is an old photographing printing process from 1842 that gives a cyan-blue result. As a technique it is quite simple: paper - or cloth - is painted with a mixture of two ferric salts that form a mildly photosensitive mixture. The paper is let to dry in a dark place, a negative is formed of a photograph with computer, it is printed onto a transparency, which is placed on the prepared paper and the paper is exposed to ultraviolet light. Natural light is the best option, of which we had today plenty, as the weather was optimal for this purpose. After exposure - around 10 minutes - the paper was put into cold water to stop the reaction and to rinse off excess ferric salts. The final colour will settle while the paper is drying.
