Tukittu

When starting to sew the April part of my BOM I decided to use a trick that I'd seen in some web video. It saves some thread when starting and finishing piecing. Eventhough you're chain piecing there are always the long thread ends at the beginning and at the end of the chain. By using a fabric strip you can avoid them easily as you can see from the above pictures. I call it here "the aid strip".

The first picture is taken from a situation where I've already sewn some pieces together and ended the chain by sewing over the aid strip. After the strip I start a new chain and sew some pieces together. They form a new chain with the aid at the top of it, as you can see in the second picture. When I'm finished with the chain I cut the aid strip loose and sew over it so it is the last piece of the chain. Now it is easy to cut loose the chain and leave the aid strip under the presser foot to wait for the next chain.

Simple but effective: no long thread ends and no more tidying them - and a little less loose ends traveling to various parts of the house while gathered into your socks. Tukittu
