Muistaakseni kuitenkin useimmiten antoi.

Tuolla koneella tosiaan pystyy ompelemaan kangasta.

====================================================================

I've started to sew so early, that since my mother isn't here any longer to tell me, I cannot remember it myself. Neither can I recall when I've got my very first sewing machine, I just know that I've had it as long as I can remember. And I've sewn numerous doll's clothes with it even before I went to school.

My mother had a real treasure in one cupboard: a big plastic bag full of colourful scraps of fabric. It was kind of a mystery where she got them since she didn't do that kind of sewing herself. She sewed only sheets and curtains, no garments. I can't remember that she would have done anything out of the scraps herself, but it was by no means allowed just to go and grab something from the bag. I always had to ask first and she always thoroughly estimated if I would get the piece or not. Thinking back now I recall that mostly she would let me.

The machine really works and it is possible to sew fabric with it. It does only chain stitch since there is no bobbin and thus only one thread. But it's a bit tricky to end the stitch since it is almost impossible to leave any free thread to the end, and if you try to turn the wheel backwards the thread breaks immediately. Somehow I anyhow did find a way to manage it so that there was always a tiny loose end I could fasten with sewing needle.

At the moment it isn't possible to sew with the machine since the needle is broken, and I haven't managed to find a new one that would fit. It would have to be shorter than regular needles and round at the upper end. It is put into the machine so that the eye of the needle faces to the left of the machine, not towards the sewer. The stitch plate is carved with Berlin, Germany, so that is probably where its made in. I would be more than grateful if someone would recognize the machine and could possibly even tell me where I could get a new needle for it.
